Barbados Lily one of the oldest and most cold hardy of all amaryllis hybrids. This flower is in the Amaryllis family, and has about 90 species and hundreds of cultivars.

For many years there was confusion among botanists over the generic names Amaryllis, which had been applied to plants from South Africa, or Hippeastrum. Until recently it was common practice for bulbs that were grown outdoors to be called Amarylis while plants under indoor cultivation would be labelled Hippeastrums (and not always correctly). However now with help from DNA technology we have overcome this problem. 

Other Common names for this flower are - Christmas Rose, Dutch Amaryllis, Fire Lily, Lily of the Palace, South African Amaryllis.
