The name "tulip" describes the overall shape of their shells, which are shaped like a closed tulip flower. These species are in the genus Fasciolaria and come from the Western Atlantic. They're marine gastropod mollusks that live in tropical waters to subtropical areas at depths of 10-70 metres (33-230 ft). Their common name include spindle shell.
